    New lead-free plumbing product requirements
    2026-08-03
Effective 1 May 2026 in Victoria under PCA 2025, copper alloy plumbing products touching drinking water must contain ≤0.25% weighted average lead and carry the new lead-free WaterMark logo. Compliance hinges on the plumbing installation start date instead of design or contract dates. Violations lead to fines, forced product replacement and project delays. This rule safeguards public health by lowering lead intake from tap water. Taps, mixing valves, hoses and water meters fall under regulation, while stainless steel tapware, non-potable and fire-fighting fixtures are exempt. Plumbers, architects and builders should verify certified lead-free materials in advance to avoid risks.
